| Watch out, our speed cameras are working!
SPEED camera bosses in Hertfordshire have denied media claims that some of their machines are faulty. The BBC1 Politics Show reported that calibration certificates from the Herts Safety Camera Partnership (HSCP) found widespread faults. The programme obtained the speed camera 'MoT certificates' using the Freedom of Information Act. It claimed eight out of 16 of the partnership's cameras that were checked last year were faulty. But an HSCP spokesman said: "The cameras have not been faulty at any time. If a camera were to develop a technical fault serious enough to affect its operation, it would not be possible to issue tickets - and this would in any case be picked up by the operators while in use. "The purpose of the secondary check marks on the road at camera sites is to provide a back-up check that the camera is functioning correctly.
Sony Wins Bid for Ipix Camera Technology Patents
When President Bush gave his 2003 State of the Union address, Ipix captured the room with a panoramic image for online viewers. Movie star Will Smith relied on similar 360-degree photos to go house-hunting in Philadelphia from his California living room. EBay used Ipix technology to display items sold online. So when the struggling Reston company announced it was auctioning off the patents for its high-resolution camera technology after filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in July, former chief executive Clara Conti wasn't surprised to receive more than 400 inquiries. .
Skype Coming To PSP? Shut Yo Mouth
Has anyone delved into the PSP's firmware updates snooping around for hidden treasures? We haven't, but Quick Jump has. According to QJ, if you look into the decrypted version of vshmain.prx from Firmware 3.10, you may be led to believe that some form of VoIP functionality will show up in the future. All signs point to Skype at the moment as the provider. Checking the dump, there was no actual PRX by that name which means that the actual functionality is still being worked upon at this stage. And I don't think anyone's bluffing either. There have already been cases of Camera, GPS, and POPS PRXes being in the firmware long before the functionality was opened up. In the case of Camera and GPS, references can be found as far back as Firmware 2.70. POPS references were found in Firmware 2.80 dumps.

Taxi CCTV camera trial 'success'
A pilot scheme to fit CCTV cameras inside taxis in Sheffield has led to a dramatic reduction in abuse and attacks against drivers, it has been claimed. The cameras were installed in 33 cabs as part of a 7,000 trial funded by Sheffield City Council in December. Drivers can activate the camera by pushing a button on the dashboard. The council said there was now an average of one incident for every 100 fares, compared to one in seven before the scheme started. 'Passenger benefit' Andy Christian, from the council's community safety scheme, said: "The statistics show the scheme has had a very significant impact. "We will now get a trade fair with camera equipment suppliers and get them together with taxi drivers and encourage the taxi drivers to take up the option of having cameras fitted." Mr Christian said drivers would have to pay for the equipment, but many were self-employed and could claim the costs back.
